The thrust of this project was to access technically and economically, the possibility of using alternative electric supply solution for telecommunication facilities in Qatar by using Solar PV with battery storage system in addition to existing DG sets for greater reliability. In the technical aspect of the project the system modeling, sizing, and control algorithm development was investigated.

Since the economic evaluation of the new adopting technology during pre-feasibility and feasibility analysis was a fundamental requirement, therefore a full financial analysis was carried out in the form typically adapted by industrial accounting today for decision making and the development of strategic plans. A rigorous analysis of non-monetary impact was undertaken as these factors are most crucial in any renewable energy project. Cost benefit analysis comprising of Benefit-cost Ratio, Net Present Value or discounted cash flow, internal rate of return, least cost planning, pay-back period and sensitivity analysis was carried out.
